I began making these butterflies when I was in college as part of an assignment. I have always made the butterflies themselves with only glue and found items that were destined for the trash or recycle bin. I have recently started creating a more natural environment for each one instead of framing them like a scientific specimen. The scene is pieced together from hand printed papers, with actual plant leaves and ferns used in the printing process. Each paper leaf and fern is hand cut and layered within a shadow box frame.
