This painting displays a dragon figurine standing on an elevated mirror, one of which has been in my family for generations. This subject was painted from life, allowing me to reminisce on familial ties while laying out the form, mixes, and lighting of this scene. Dragons are a creature of intrigue for me. For centuries they have been various symbols throughout different historical and cultural contexts. I am particularly interested in the characteristics given to this animal; a mysterious and powerful loner who protects its treasure. Within the past year, I have included dragons within my work, reinventing this creature as my internal persona. As this mighty creature stands atop this illuminated mirror, it is representative of myself protecting my treasure, my family.
